After years of uncertainty, The Light is finally being moved from 100.7 FM.
The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) decided early this year that 100.9 FM would be made available to the ABC and that The Light should move to 98.5 FM. We have applied to ACMA for a temporary licence on the new frequency to begin on 1 December 2010, the date they specified.
The technical changes are almost ready. We will be replacing our current transmitter with our backup transmitter, which will be the first time we have had to rely on this new setup. The current transmitter will then be sent away to be retuned. Once it returns it will become the backup transmitter.
During the intervening time we will be conducting tests of the new transmitter, but will endeavour to avoid interrupting programs wherever possible. There is the possibility that testing may not be completed by 1 December, in which case we may cease broadcasting for a short period, but we hope that this will not be necessary.
We’ll be informing our listeners of the impending change of frequency with announcements on the air. Changing frequencies also means overhauling our on-air branding, involving changing dozens of announcements, and changing the design of our website and printed materials. Much of this work remains to be done this month.
Please pray that the technical and branding changes will be done in time and to a good standard
