If you’re looking for a way to mark St Patrick’s Day this weekend, I Am Patrick, streaming on GOOD, is the perfect thing.
The gripping docu-drama unravels the legends and myths around the famed Saint, to uncover the true story of Patrick’s origins.
Patrick lived in the 5th century AD, born at a time when the Roman Empire was collapsing and barbarians threatened civilisation. The son of a government official, Patrick’s Catholic faith meant little to him – until he was kidnapped by pirates at age 16 and enslaved in Ireland. It was there, in desperate need, that he turned to his Christian beliefs.
Through divine intervention, he eventually escape his captors, but, called by God, Patrick returned as a missionary to Ireland. There he converted thousands to Christianity.
The incredible story of Saint Patrick is told in I Am Patrick through historical re-enactments, expert interviews and Patrick’s own writings, tracing his journey from boy, to man, to saint.
I Am Patrick airs on Sunday night at 8pm, or streaming any time on the GOOD app.
