As some parents can relate – teenagers like to be heard when they’re passionate about something! If your teen is intent on being heard then the 2018 My First Speech competition might be for them!
My First Speech is designed to give teenagers a unique chance to address the Federal parliament in Canberra – putting them in the role of a newly elected Member of Parliament about to address the chamber for the first time.
Entrants can choose to speak on something they’re passionate about and which they feel the whole of Australia needs to know about. It’s open to students in Year 10, 11, or 12, and entries close at 5pm on Friday, October 19.
Chance to engage with community
The My First Speech competition is a great chance for teenagers to actively engage with their community by letting their Christian essence be seen and/or heard.
Winners will be flown to Canberra to present their speech live at Parliament House.
House of Representatives Speaker Tony Smith says the competition is a great opportunity for young public speakers to make their voices heard. See the My First Speech competition website for resources and tips on how to craft a speech.
